CT Coffee and Coconuts

Taking over the old 1920’s Ceintuur Theatre was an inspired idea for this super-cool all day hotspot.  Spread over four floors and fitted out by a local concept store with hanging plants, exposed brick and heaps of blonde wood, CT Coffee and Coconuts is where Amsterdammers head for early breakfast, lunch, coffee and of course coconut juice.

The huge but very cleverly designed space housed within an art deco monument includes cosy nooks, bean bags for lounging, suspended mezzanines and large sharing tables.  The exposed brick walls are vertiginous and the perfect backdrop to early black and white portraits of Hendrix, Jagger, Bowie and Lennon.

Some of the menu items can be unnecessarily over-complex (miso paste and olives with your scrambled eggs avo anyone?) but it’s hard to argue with fresh coconuts and mango lassis let alone the signature “CT’s coconut dream” made with mango, banana, coconut-water, cucumber, lemon and cocoflower sugar.

Interestingly it’s also a particularly great place to bring kids.  There’s loads of room for them to roam freely, fun smoothies for them to try, great changing facilities and more than enough space for even the largest Dutch-made double Bugaboo.
