Are you looking for Amsterdam’s most Instagrammable spots? You’re not alone. Bloggers, Vloggers and Instagram’s finest are all looking for the most instagrammable canals, views, restaurants, café’s and street food in Amsterdam but sadly there is a wealth of terrible advice online. Well lucky you, you’ve hit the jackpot. This is THE place to find Amsterdam’s Instagram finest.
Most Instagrammable Canals in Amsterdam
Think Amsterdam, think canals. Everywhere you look you’ll be surrounded by incredible watery views and its hard to pick that one definitive shot. That said, those in the know head to one of the following for the city’s finest canal vista…
Brouwersgracht
The Brouuwersgracht is considered Amsterdam’s most beautiful canal so you definitely won’t be disappointed with any of the views from here. Wander along it’s length, stopping off for a shot or two by the lovely Cafe Papeneiland where the Brouwersgracht meets the Prinsengracht for an iconic shot.
Staalstraat
A total Insta fave is a shot taken on the little bridge along the Staalstraat where it crosses over the Groenburgwal. Here you’ll have a perfectly framed view with houses down either side and a gorgeous little church at the end. You won’t be the only person snapping an Insta-dream but your followers will still be wowed.
7 bridges
One of my favourite views in Amsterdam is where the Keizersgracht meets the Reguliersgracht. Here you’ll find bridges and canals in all directions and if you get the angle right you’ll get a shot with 7 bridges in a row. Guaranteed insta-love.
9 Little Streets
If you’re around around the fabulous shopping area of the 9 Little Streets (Negen Straatjes) you’ll have dozens of opportunities for magical canal snaps. The nine streets cross back and forth over the three loveliest canals and you’ll struggle to choose just the one shot to post to your account.
Any canal view from a boat (particularly Pure Boats!)
There’s no question, the best way to see Amsterdam’s canals is by boat, and there is no better boat to choose than Pure Boats. Want to linger longer for that special photo moment, they’ll be happy to advise and put together a tailored plan just for you.
Most Instagrammable Places in Amsterdam
Amsterdam was just made for Insta love and once you’ve snapped canals to your heart’s content, there are no shortage of other spots to grab a classic Dutch scene.
Begijnhof
Amsterdam has a ‘not so secret’ hidden garden, but it still makes for a beautiful photo in amongst the madness of the city. This little enclave houses a church and accommodation for the Catholic sisterhood and its worth stepping through the vaulted corridor and exploring its hidden corners
Windmill at Brouwerij ‘t IJ
Amsterdam centre has just one windmill, and it’s definitely worth a visit. Not only does it make for a perfectly Dutch snap but underneath it you’ll find a brewery which is a great place to linger over a beer.
Houses along the canal belt
If you want the ultimate Amsterdam shot, its going to have to include some of Amsterdam’s famous narrowhouses. Pretty much anywhere along the three main canals (Prinsengracht, Keizersgracht and Herengracht) will offer picture perfect shots of your dream Amsterdam canal house – and chances are you’ll be able to pack in a picture of a canal and bike at the same time.
Houses along Damrak
Although I’m not a fan of touristy Damrak, it does offer some decent Amsterdam views. Try a night-time shot or see if you can get a magical Amsterdam reflection in the canal. Just don’t pap the thousands of tourists jostling alongside you.
Skinny bridge
There are hundreds of bridges in Amsterdam but none more iconic than the Magere Brug or Skinny Bridge. Picture perfect day or night, its definitely one to tick off the bucket list.
Canal Houses that rise out of the water
Unfortunately Cafe Aen’t Water is a pretty touristy place but that’s probably due to the magnificent view. Get there early if you want the ultimate terrace table looking out over houses that seem to rise straight out of the canal.
I amsterdam letters
THE ultimate Insta money shot used to be at the I amsterdam letters by the Rijksmuseum. Sadly these have now been removed by the city authorities but the letters do still remain at Schipol airport and there are a further set of letters that move around the city for special events.
Most Instagrammable Museums in Amsterdam
If you want a bit of culture on your ‘gram, don’t forget that Amsterdam museums will provide some perfect snaps.
The Rijksmuseum
Cycling under vaulted entrance to the Rijks and of course the Nightwatch are classic Insta moments but our favourite is the secret library. Get there when the shafts of light hit the dust motes in the world’s oldest history of art library for a perfect moment.
Museum Ons’ Lieve Heer Op Solder (Our Lord in the Attic)
A hidden church in the attic of a Golden Age canal house ought to be enough to tempt you to get snapping, but make that a pink church and this one definitely ticks all the boxes!
WONDR
Hey good looking, how do you fancy a museum/experience mashup where you are the star of your own show. There is nowhere more Instagrammable in Amsterdam than the city’s own immersive selfie experience. Make sure your battery is fully charged and dress in your Insta-finest for hours of selfie action. For all the info, check out our dedicated post right here.
STRAAT
Amsterdam’s newest and one of its most photogenic museums is the incomparable STRAAT. The whole of the regenerated NDSM wharf is a Blade-Runner style selfie seeker’s dream but the centrepiece is the world’s largest street art and graffiti museum which invites a thousand poses against its stunning backdrop – both interior and exterior.
Amsterdam’s most Instagrammable street art
There are streets and canals that have been around forever which have been “discovered” by the Insta-generation and then there are the places that have been created to meet the insta-satiable desire for selfies. The #wakemeupwhenimfamous wall in the Pijp is most certainly the latter and has topped the influencer ‘most desirable’ list. Grab that bench before someone else does.
Amsterdam’s most beautiful avenue
There’s an avenue in Amsterdam where the trees lean into each other that has become an Insta fave. Lomanstraat is particular spectacular in Autumn when the light and leaves come together for a spectacular show.
Most Instagrammable Restaurants in Amsterdam
Amsterdam restaurants have realised they can get a whole load of attention by playing up to beloved Instagrammer themes. So get your phone or camera ready to snap your food at one of the following.
Mama Kelly
Think Pink and head on down to Mama Kelly for chicken or lobster and be prepared for total pink-splosion. With rose gold and bubblegum coloured furniture, fittings and cocktails, the only problem is which shot will be ‘the one’.
The Avocado Show
As soon as this place was announced, the buzz online was off the scale. There have been copies since, but the original still draws the crowds and the influencers. Make sure you’re amongst them, nestled into the pink banquettes which offset all that green to perfection.
Most Instagrammable Cafe’s in Amsterdam
If you thought the restaurant scene was photogenic, wait till you see what Amsterdam’s cafe’s have to offer. Whether its food, interiors or exteriors, café society here is picture perfect.
Corner Bakery
Its hard to imagine a more gorgeous spot for generating Instagram love than one of the city branches of Corner Bakery. It’s not just the unicorn shakes that are off the scale, there’s healthy food on offer and all of it rainbow beautiful!
Pluk
Pluk has become an Instagram sensation in its own right attracting tens of thousands of follows on their feed. Concept store and cafe in one and based in the heart of the 9 Little Streets, they’ve recently opened a second branch a street away.
Ree7
Although Ree7 (again in the 9 Little Streets) has become famous for their freak shakes, its actually their painted seasonal windows which I particularly love. Take your pick for a pic or try to combine the two!
Cafe t’ Smalle
Some cafe’s are all about interior decor, some about food, and others are all about location. Cafe t’ Smalle is one of the latter. Our very favourite, tiny Amsterdam terrace is picture-perfect and for me, the ultimate Amsterdam shot.
Dignita
Dignita Hoftuin has got it all. Stunning inside and out and best of all both beautiful and delicious food. Don’t tell everyone – it’s already packed out for weekend brunch and we’d rather enjoy our meal without too much posing.
Bulls and Dogs
For the most over the top freakshakes in town, Bulls and Dogs is where its at. I have to confess they don’t do it for me but I’m clearly in the minority as Amsterdam’s Instagrammers can’t get enough of them.
Sticky Fingers
These days, including pink walls in your interior design is pretty much guaranteed to drive footfall, but I can’t hold it against the lovely little Sticky Fingers with their gorgeous cakes and tarts. Delighting in blogger love from day one, get your pink on and get on down there.
Kattencafe Kopjes
If you like your cake with a “cattacino” on the side, then head over to feline fantasy Kopjes cat cafe for some instant “aaah” on your Insta. Leave your kitten heels behind and get up close to the real thing.
Most Instagrammable Street Food in Amsterdam
If you’re lusting after the classic shot of a handful of something over the canals, check out these lovelies for starters.
Van Wonderen Stroopwafels
Definitely not the most traditional caramel waffles but almost certainly the most photogenic – Van Wonderen has cornered the market in the classic Amster-street-food shot.
Vlemincx
The very best chips in Amsterdam are to be found at Vleminckx. Dash with your cone of piping hot lovelies down to the canal before the sauce runs down your arm.
Winkel 43
If you thought it was a challenge to get your chips to a good location for a snap, try travelling with a slice of apple pie! Still its a classic Amsterdam food so see if you can get a slice of the best at Winkel 43, why not give it a try.
Polaberry
The incredible Instagrammer @Polabur who takes some of the most stunning shots of Amsterdam (many included above) also runs the gorgeous Polaberry store and you won’t be surprised that their chocolate dipped strawberries and miniature bars are literally made to be papped. Grab yourself something sweet and pose.
That’s it, Insta-insanity over. If that hasn’t filled your Insta-appetite, or filled your life with Insta-inspiration nothing will. As you gather, you can pretty much hold anything in your hand over a canal and turn it into Insta-magic – so what are you waiting for, get Amster-dreaming and give it a shot.

Absolutely great post, I love how detailed your articles always are.
I love Amsterdam for the beauty and uniqueness of its architecture- and it makes for some pretty great photo-ops! I love the area around Rijksmuseum as well, and also around Haarlemmerplein for great photos (pictured in my profile link).
