The IJ-kantine

We love the IJ-kantine.  On the North side of the River IJ at NDSM Wharf it’s another of Amsterdam’s warehouse-dining spaces that’s beautifully designed.  Large, flexible, colourful and with a great menu -the sun dazzles through the vast windows over the water which makes it the perfect place to read the papers on a Sunday morning, hang out for lunch or even stay for dinner.  It also has private areas and rooms for meetings or working lunches.

For kids its a total paradise.  Not only does it have one of the most child-friendly menus in Amsterdam but you’ll also find a play corner with touch-screen TVs (tick), stacks of games and toys (tick), sandpit on the terrace in Summer (tick) and weekend afternoon entertainment overseen by a childminder in one of their lovely meeting rooms (big tick!).

Notwithstanding all the parent-friendly features on offer it’s an unashamedly grown up and cool place to while away some time.  They even have their own dock, so on a Summer day why not pull up in your boat (dream) or take the ferry over for lunch.
