The Kinderkookcafe (children’s cooking cafe) is an incredibly special and very Dutch institution. Located in a lovely little house on the side of the Vondelpark, it is a place for young kids (and older ones) to express their independence and make their own food, or even yours. They choose at the (kids’ height) counter from a series of pictures of food they want to make, then collect the ingredients and utensils, head back to the table and get busy. Food that needs cooking is put in the oven by staff, kids can pay, choose their own drinks and play both inside and out. On weekends, there are sessions for slightly older kids to work together to prepare a meal for their parents, and of course they organise parties too. Go, you won’t be disappointed. Our kids were thrilled by the whole experience.
